first day
today was a pretty typical first day of work - had a brief orientation with discussion of the employee manual, filling out W4 and I9 paperwork, setting up health insurance, getting connected to my new work email address and scheduling system, and was presented with my official name tag (see picture). pretty cool to be on the therapist side of things and no longer a student...although i won't really be seeing my own patients until next week. today, my company allowed for a few of us to attend a lecture tonight on pain, specifically dealing with chronic pain, the biology behind it, and the implications for exam and treatment. basically, the lecture presented a new way of thinking about and approaching pain that differs from the typical model (which assumes pain comes from specific tissue damage/nociception and doesn't necessarily take into account a variety of other factors). it was super interesting (especially when talking about the use of metaphor and story to explain pain to patients) and the speaker was really engaging. i'm glad we went!

Also, next time we chat I'd like to hear more about the pain lecture - sounds really interesting.
